The Expendables 2 is here to redeem it self from an over-hyped flop. Sylvester Stallone leads his crew of high protein diet enriched crew. They return in the sequel, all including a fantasy rooster of; Stallone, Lundgren, Rourke, Couture, Crews, Stratham, Jet Li and drum roll Jean-Claude Van Damme with a couple of very special added cameo appearances. Hint; Chuck Norris doesn't cameo in the Expendables 2, he is not expendable! With the summer film festivities coming to a close, the Expendables will take full advantage being one of the last anticipated blockbusters. This is really like a super “Avengers” with exception of film action stars rather than super hero's. Expendable 2 is a mash-up of every darn action star from the past twenty years. Sylvester Stallone redeems his previous conception adjusting the chemistry between the characters and delivers a knock out blow!
The plot line is direct following the laws of cause and affect. When Tool (Mickey Rourke) is assassinated his daughter Fiona takes it upon herself to avenge his death. Stubborn and strong headed she falls victim to capture and consequently is the damsel in distress and feminine element in the film. In relation Agent Church (Bruce Willis) orders charismatic leader Barney (Stallone) and the mercenaries on a mission to retrieving a secret package, an implied simple job but not only is the squad unknowingly ambushed by the rival crew Sangunaires lead by non other than Vilain (Jean-Claude van Damme). Who happens to hold the better acting chops in general with exception to Stallone, With all due respect Arnolds famed single punch lines as “I'll be back” were never Oscar bound. Jean-Claude opposes the protagonist squad and does so in form playing a great villain. We can only wonder why he didn't have such anti-hero roles in previous works. As advertised be ready to be exposed to a mass array of, live action fight scenes, using everything from fists, to blades, to guns and explosives one could possible take in. A spoonful of on screen violence sequences relatively feed in fifteen minute segments that will surely have you bloated, in a good way.
The more notable difference from the previous installment is that the roles players get more spotlighted screen time. Director Simon West does an exceptional job of using all the characters in there own respected element. To lighten the tone there is humorous segments lead by Terry Crews that will very much be enjoyed by fanatics of the action movie stars. There are sly references to the accumulated on screen perceptions of each individual. It's an all or nothing type of action flick that is rarely tried upon. In essence the average movie go'er with a spec of intellect might find “The Expendables 2 “ a bit to much. Apart anyone that is even a bit intrigued by the initial idea of the film will leave mpst certainly satisfied. In all Sylvester Stallone does a suburb job of rectifying the major flaws of original concept. The film has its flaws as it isn't everyone's cup of tea but like previously stated the general target audience will be satisfied in comparison to its predecessor. The Expendables 2 packs every bit of blood spilling, gut wrenching action one can take in 103 min. running time and is a adrenaline shot that will surely boost your own testosterone levels.
