One way to make money online is through blogging. There are some steps to take to ensure success. I have compiled a list of ten strategies to help support your blog and increase your traffic.
Strategy One
Connect your blog with your Google + profile via the authorship link. Google likes people using their platform, so take advantage of it and get connected. If you need help in using the authorship link, I can give you a link to a blog post that explains how to connect your blog and Google + through the authorship link.
Strategy Two
Use Bluehost for your hosting. Bluehost gives you unlimited bandwidth, which will prevent your site from crashing when you generate lots of traffic. Bluehost also offers unlimited storage, so you can create tons of articles, podcasts and videos for your blog. Bluehost provides their customers with support 24 hours a day. This is great because your site can crash and it can also be hacked. If either happens, Bluehost is there to help you get your site back up.
Strategy Three
You need to take steps to protect your blog. I always recommend installing WordPress because it has so many plugins for you to use. To keep spam comments off your blog, WordPress has Askimet. GD Press facilitates maintenance as well as security. Another great plug in is Safety Press. It has many features to keep hackers away. I use all three of these plug ins and I suggest you do too.
Strategy Four
You need to build an email list so that you can communicate with people and send them offers as you please. To do this, you need to have a place on your blog for visitors to opt in to your list. With WordPress, you can use a widget to get your opt in on every page and every post of your entire blog. To collect emails, offer visitors a free guide in exchange for their email address. You can also use a free newsletter to get them on your email list.
Strategy Five
Use your blog for branding. Branding is important because it establishes you as an authority. In order to get people to buy from you, they must view you as an authority and trust you. To brand yourself, use banners with your name, or the name of your business. Include your own head shot too. Nowadays, people need to know that there is a real person behind the blog, not just a faceless marketer or corporation who is probably only going to scam them. Use your blog and your pictures as your voice. Make sure you have an About Page that describes you and your business.
Strategy Six
You need to connect your blog to the social media platforms and the social bookmarking sites. A tool that integrates with WordPress, that will save tons of time, is Only wire. Only wire is a social bookmarking submitter. It allows you to send out every blog post to 30-40 social bookmarking sites at one time. Now, you need to make it easy for your visitors to share your content. The easiest way to do this is to install a social media plugin from WordPress. A great plugin to use is Get Social.
Strategy Seven
Similar to submitting your content to social media and bookmark sites, you need to submit your RSS feed to RSS directories. When you publish a new post, the directories you submit your feed to will pick it up. Search Google for the top directories. Find 20-30 directories to submit your feeds to.
Strategy Eight
You need a privacy policy on your blog; however, if you or your attorney does not write your policy, make sure you make the page No Follow, No Index. If you use a generic privacy policy without No Follow, No Index, search engines will see it as duplicate content and could penalize your site for it. Another good idea to avoid duplicate content is to set up a 301-redirect from your non-www. URL to your www. URL. While we are talking about links, make sure you put a link to your homepage on your 404 page. That way, visitors who end up on the 404 page will not leave your blog.
Strategy Nine
Google does not like blogs full of affiliate links so you need to mask them. A simple way to mask your affiliate links is to go to Tinyurl.com or Bitly.com. These two sites allow you to shorten your affiliate URL’s which will make them look like normal links to search engines. You can also install a plugin called Pretty Link Like. This plugin enables you to add your affiliate links to your domain URL.
Strategy Ten
Optimize Your Blog
You need to optimize your blog. Whatever keyword you are trying to rank for, make sure it is in your title tags, your description tags, and your meta tags. Another place you need to make sure you have your keyword is in your Header, or H1, and make sure it is in bold. In WordPress, install the SEO plugin by Yoast. This plugin will make optimizing your blog easy. It will tell you where to put your keywords and simplify the whole process.
In Summary
To get traffic to your blog and boost your search engine ranking, you need to connect your blog to your Google Plus account. You can do this with the authorship link. Host your blog with Bluehost. Install plugins to protect your blog as much as possible. Have an opt in box on every post so that you can build a large email list. Brand your business through images and banners. Connect your blog to social media sites and social bookmarking sites with plugins. Submit your RSS feed to the top RSS directories. Remember to make your privacy policy page No Follow, No Index. Make sure you mask your affiliate links. Lastly, optimize your blog with an SEO plugin so you can maximize your success!
