Ubuntu 12.04 - A sneak peek into its new features

Just within a span of three months of the release of the alpha version of Ubuntu, Linux 12.04, the developers of this project brought about its beta version operating system. Ubuntu is basically an operating system that is built on 'Debian-Linix' platform and is available as open source software. This OS has its own desktop environment. Though it focuses primarily on desktop PC uses, it's also used for servers and for cloud-computing.

Many users who had been using Ubuntu 12.04's alpha version have been relieved to see the latest updates in the beta version. Several new features and improvements have been made in its beta version. As this is an open source platform, hence it has 'n' number of contributors who keep working on the same, bringing about various changes. All these get consolidated in the form of beta version, and are brought out in the markets for the end users once the changes have been approved. Let's take a quick sneak peek into the new editions which have come up in Ubuntu.

Changes have been made to the home screen where now recent-applications appear first before the recent-files, followed by recent-downloads making it all the more useful. Compensating for the loss of its old home screen, unity-dash now has the 'quick lists-support' which is really awesome.

The new home-folder-quick list edition exhibits the fact that the programming authorities do consider the feedback given by the end users and try their best to implement or bring in changes for their benefit. The home menu option created is really a beneficial addition to this Ubuntu OS.

Apart from this, there is an all new video lens with a default HUD with several changes made to the same, but do not panic as there has been no changes made to the application menu. Further to this, the launcher icon can easily be re-sized directly from the wallpaper option; hence you no longer need CCSM to be installed. There is also an option for changing the theme of Ubuntu using the same window. Thus, editions have been incorporated quite well. Next, the auto-hiding facility has been activated for the launcher by setting the same, using the behavior tab and finally there comes a big good-bye to Banshee which has now been replaced by Rhythm box in the 12.04 version. It seems that the authorities are really serious in getting Ubuntu used by majority, hence is also seriously considering removing Mono from Ubuntu OS.
