Tame-a-tiger-or-tame-your life–understand-the-anatomy-of-life-of-PI

There are many of us who are known as bookworm, just because we literally get almost lost in the story every time we get our hands on a new novel. Only we know what it feels and look like to imagine a certain situation as described in the book, thus relieving the moment being a character as described in the novel. It is we who knows that what it really feels like to be in tune with a certain character which can be more entertaining sometimes than a movie or film on the same thing. And for a hard core reader changing or tweaking with our favorite story if it is made into a movie can be quite a bad experience. But Life of Pi is something different. After watching the movie I really felt what being Pi is supposed to mean. The vivid description which puts the famous novel by Ang Lee miles apart from other contemporary novels can be visible throughout the movie. The artificial and virtual doesn’t feel so and has been put in such a subtle manner we often sway with amazement about what to believe and what not. And that brings proper justice to the bestseller in a way that was beyond imagination.

For those who have read the bestselling novel, Life of Pi is all about imagination, belief and struggle. The movie precisely showed us why. The story starts with the protagonist ‘Pi’ narrating his story to a novelist after he grows old. The name Pi is given to the main character not after the mathematical constant, but after a French pool by his uncle. He comes from Pondicherry and belongs to an affluent family who has a zoo based there. Pi’s full name is Piscine Molitor Patel and takes up the name Pi after getting snide remarks and taunts about his name in school. After his family get into trouble with the government over a land issue, they decided to sell their zoo and move to Canada. They sell most of the animals except a few and got themselves to a Japanese freighter to take them abroad. Meanwhile Pi gets under the influence of three religions, Hindu which was introduced to him in his childhood and later he was a follower of Islam and Christianity as well. These religions have a great impact on his young mind but he himself says that he is trying to find God in his own way and Love him. As they were travelling to their destination their ship was caught in a storm which kills his parents and he was found to be only survivor along with a Hyena, zebra, and baboon to provide company. The hyena eventually kills the zebra and baboon and Pi himself was at great risk when Richard Parker, the royal Bengal tiger killed the hyena and saved Pi’s life. Pi uses his tactics to convince the tiger about not to eat him. They survived 227 days on the lifeboat and when they finally touched coast in Mexico Richard Parker immediately ran in the nearby jungle leaving Pi stranded behind only to be found by two officials where he narrates them his story.

Life of Pi is a story that shows us the amount of benefit he has reaped from practicing different religion. As he tries to survive the uninhabited sea alone his faith and belief have been tested to the full and the death of his family at such a young age keep haunting us about the poor boys fate. Though the story open with the fact that Pi is well alive, the story of his life is nonetheless enchanting. The religious beliefs along with a hope for survival are the two main points where the story keeps us attached. But the fact that it was made a movie with such care and precision it is bound to take ones breathe away. The uncontested imagery, extensive use of technology and the 3D experience makes the whole thing look most natural and real, so that at some point even we are lost with Pi and Richard Parker and have to dive deep into our own belief and trust on God. Though the end of the story is not that thrilling but still it doesn’t matter much and could not be seen as a hindrance as we learn that the destination is not such important as the journey towards it. And the 3D imagery does make a great impact when the digitally created Richard Parker pounces towards us. Life of Pi is just like the story of every other human, just the background changes, yet the struggle throughout the journey remains.
