Can-Bing-Now-Lure-More-Searches-Away-From-Google

When does the new "Hobbit" film come out? - I'm not sure, I'll Google that.

Even though Google's name has been used as a synonym for online research, the biggest search engine out there is already starting to feel the heat from its main competitor - Bing. Even though it has a word association with TV sports, it still made plenty of people wonder what this thing really is.

So we went on to Google it. What we saw was that it's a pretty sleek looking side with a simple search bar leaving us to ask how different it actually is from Google.

What are the differences between Google and Bing?

Well, Bing's homepage is certainly more interesting than Google's by its ever changing photo. On the other hand, the plain screen Google has been associated with for so many years also has its own advantages. For some people it seems less cluttered and sleeker and others just like it because it gets right to the point.

As soon as you decide to make a search Google will instantly bring up results ranked from the most relevant to the least relevant ones. Also with the new Instant feature it sort of tries to give people the extra push towards certain keywords making your searches even more relevant and less generic. On the other hand, Bing goes on to categorize their answers within deep links, multimedia or similar categories. This way the results are a lot easier to shift through. Even though Google allows you to filter the search engine page rankings, you still have to do this manually.

When comparing the two directly it really is hard to say which one is better. And if you'd like to know the best way to start is by asking yourself what exactly it is that you're looking for in a search.

More than listings

If you'd like to go further than the usual results there's also a link on Google that you can press for the extra stuff. There's Gmail, Google Talk, Images, etc, which will keep the average user interested in coming back. And if you're just chatting with a friend on Gtalk then you can link them with a presentation from your Google Docs directly.

Staying on with the rankings

The majority of users find staying with the rankings very important. This is where Bing is the clear winner because it allows for you preview the results without having to leave the site. There's also an option for you to share the previewed result directly to Facebook, Twitter or to simply email it. The video search is going to play the videos as soon as you mouse over them and it allows for you to see what a video is about without actually having to leave the results. Also when it comes to images it always brings up results bars on the left side of the screen as soon as you've chosen a result. Even though Google is good at filtering both videos and images, Bing is going to keep the users right there on the search making them happier.

Result quality

When it comes to quality of results, this is where Google certainly outshines Bing. However, it doesn't mean that the results are more relevant to what Bing can offer.

Travel Lookups

Speaking of travel options, Bing's are certainly better in so many ways. There is actually a separate SEPR when it comes to travel options which will provide all the information you need to directly book a flight or a hotel. Google will just send the user to either Expedia or another relevant travel site.

Mobile options

When it comes to searching with a mobile device Google is the clear winner. Being that mobile searches are slowly becoming a more dominant way of searching - Google wins this one because it's the default search engine on the newest smartphones.

Maps

In terms of searching for location both are pretty equal. Even though Google was the first company to come up with both Maps and Streetview, Bing is still pretty comparable with their Bird's Eye View. This really comes down to which brand you're more loyal to.

So which one's the better one out of the two?

We all know that both of these search engines have their pros and cons, but choosing which one's the best will ultimately depend on what you're looking for. If you're into more targeted results and staying on the listings longer then Bing is the way to Go. However, if you prefer more results and other applications that you can combine with it Google is the way to go. Even though Bing might search better, Google still offers more to it.
