On a conference call several people from various places communicate over a network at the same time. This form of communication is ideal for businesses where the employees are geographically distant from one another. Conference calls have worked effectively for some business, but there are a few businesses where conference calls have been disadvantageous.

One of the main advantages of free conference calls is that people who are far apart can meet and share ideas. In the past, it would have been impossible to schedule a meeting until everyone was available in the same room. Technology now makes it possible to meet and collaborate with people who are many miles away.

Employees who have to travel on business can still remotely attend meetings via conferencing technology. This way they can stay up to date with what’s going on in the organization and brief other employees and managers with any updates on their remote assignments.


Cost Savings

A company can make use of conference calls boost productivity and save money. Instead of paying the costs for travel to bring in a consultant or another employee, the company can have that person share insights over the call. This will save the company money on travel costs. It also increases productivity since that person does not have to spend time travelling back and forth.

Employees Could Neglect Responsibilities


In some cases conference calls can lead to laziness and neglect in employees. Those employees that are in close proximity to the place of meeting could elect to conference in rather than physically attending the meeting. These types of remote meetings could become a commonplace and could affect organizational activities.


Reduction in Team Collaboration


Team work is an important aspect of company culture. Frequent remote meetings could interfere with teamwork that is essential for staff development and growth. Although collaboration can take place over the phone, it is not nearly as effective as a group of employees sharing ideas and solving problems around the table.
