The latest trends in web design to be aware of in 2013

Change is the essence of life and web designing is a vast area where change is always expectable. Web design is an ever changing field, constantly evolving with the needs and trends of society. They are often unpredictable; suddenly there will pop up a revolutionary trend that will be embraced by the design community.

In the present design market, designers must not be outdated because clients are always on the trend. While trends in design world are somewhat hard to predict because of their quick fluidity, there are some ideas for what the coming year’s web design style holds.

Trend # 1: Responsive Design:

Responsive Design

Responsive web design is a must. It’s glaringly obvious that technology has moved and continues to move to more mobile devices. With the population of mobile devices users skyrocketed. Users are now fond to visit their favorite sites through their mobile. Virtually everyone in our society owns a smart phone or tablet that features smaller screens and touch screen interaction. Not to mention the ability to view the screen portrait style or landscape. For varying screen sizes of these devices, web designers gave a hard time in designing websites, so a solution came out. Thanks to the help of CSS Frameworks, such as Twitter Bootstrap, 1140 grid system and other grid came to the rescue. Websites can now adapt to different devices, be it a desktop, tablet or a smart phone. In short, the site design responds to the format it is being viewed on so that it is usable on any device.

Trend # 2: Parallax scrolling

Now the scrolling is everywhere. Internet users want usability and convenience having to scroll both vertically or horizontally, it will surely became a trend because of its usability whether you are using desktop or other devices such as , notebook, tablets or phones – does not reflect these qualities. Another one is parallax scrolling which is so popular, during 2010 when birth of this style occurs. Parallax scrolling is a growing trend for interactive websites, which is when elements on the site scroll on different lines to create movement and a 3-D effect. It captures the viewer’s attention and is more entertaining than pages overloaded with text or simple one way scrolling.

Trend # 3: Full page Backgrounds

Now days, many website designs have this kind of approach. Beautiful backgrounds which is enough to show the branding of the website. Truly a picture depicts a thousand words. This is often the case with parallax scrolling as well, because everything works cohesively, as opposed to separate elements that the eye has to jump between. This can help emphasize the personality of the site’s brand, as the background is attention grabbing. And it takes away the need or the illusion of a need for disjointed photos that don’t do anything for the brand. High quality photos or vectors are needed to pull off this trend, as poor images will only distract the reader.

Trend # 4: Skeuomorphism in Web Design Trends

Skeuomorphism in web design

The shifts at the executive ranks in Apple this fall may have an interesting effect on the design community in 2013. Skeumorphism has been the preferred flavor of user interface design for Apple and many others for some time now, but there has always been a disconnect between the simple elegance of the hardware and the stylized UI metaphors of the OS and software.

Simple, clean, UI design will make a strong presence this year. We can already see the influence of Microsoft’s Metro UI on applications both for windows and other platforms. The focus of “Content over chrome” is an approach that fits very well within the concepts of contextual design, mobile first and responsive web.

Trend # 5: Typography Design

Typography Design

Given all creative possibilities for type design, websites should feature the same typographical creativity. The web design trend will also remain. No more use of graphics. This is the first thing to be noticed unconsciously is the font used in web design, which is why it is important to consider.

Many designers are beginning to lean towards more simplistic and spacious web layouts, and designing solely with type. Often an underused art, typography can communicate just as beautifully as images.

So, in the last coming to a simple conclusion, user will only need a website built once since the responsive web design will work seamlessly across not hundreds but thousands of technology screen types, now and in the future. With that being said, such website will be prepared to attract consumers to products and services no matter what device they are viewing on the worldwide web. Web design trends will likely to be followed for us to be updated and will be left behind in the design trend. Be revolutionary in web design for the next year to come. Be at a constant pace of your desire to learn new things, implement them, play with it, who knows you must be the trendsetter for the year 2013.
